Hi, I'm Bethany! I'm a Designer Maker living in Cambridge, UK. I love sewing and I design dresses for my clothing line Look Street. I also love photography, I sell fabric, and I collect dolls. I will be sharing my creative projects, adventures and inspiration in this blog.
I finally finished making Poppy’s Mud Kitchen! It was 95% recycled, thrifted and salvaged! I spent a few quid on the little whisk and colander. The cooker is made from an old cupboard turned on it’s side, with a magnetic closure added inside the door. The top part is an old draw found in a skip. The pots and pans were donated by a kind person on a local freecycle group. Hopefully P will have loads of fun with it this summer. 🙂
It’s been a while since I last had a chance to update my blog, I hope to do so more often! I am still stitching away, making personalised items for my Etsy customers. I have recently added Birthday crowns to my shop, which can be made in your choice of colours and shapes. There is also the option of a crown with changeable Velcro numbers for each birthday!
Spring is in the air here in the UK and my personalised play tents are proving popular! Now available with windows! Great for indoor and outdoor play.
I hope to share more of the fun activities I get up to with my lovely daughter, we always have a project on the go! Some of our recent makes include this dinosaur terrarium in a Poundland cocktail bowl!
At the moment we are making her a mud kitchen to play with in the garden this spring and summer. More photos coming soon. 🙂
I’m reallllly excited about BlytheCon UK this year as it is being held in London for the second time, and it will be the first time I have attended since BCUK Manchester in 2012, when I was heavily pregnant! I won’t be trading this year but I will have some BCUK exclusive MforMonkey collaboration purses on Mary MforMonkey‘s table, and I have been part of one of the five design teams for the BlytheCon UK Doll Project!
This year’s BCUK raffle will raise money for two fantastic charities; Eaves and Young Minds. Five teams of Blythe customisers and designers have created five very special dolls for the raffle. I had great fun with my team and our chosen theme, Circus Alice. Sandra Mónica Vale Efigénio created our beautiful custom doll, Hilary/MoshiMoshi who made the incredible Mad Hatter’s outfit, and Karin/Fishknees who created the stunning White Rabbit and Queen of Hearts Tightrope Walker outfit. I made the Alice runs away with the circus dress set. ❤ I am amazed how wonderful all the different outfits look on our lovely doll. ❤
I hope you like her too! I have seen some sneak peeks of the other teams creations too and I will certainly be buying a lot of raffle tickets! ^_^
I hope everyone has been enjoying the summer! I have been working on some fun sewing projects.
This fun teepee play tent design is for a little girl from her new baby brother. I love the Zap Pow Wham fabric!
This set of items were part of a custom order for a customer who looked through my past makes and chose some items she would like made in her favourite colours. It was great fun working with this lovely Japanese fabric and vintage flower charms.
I stocked up my shop with some new zip purses in Japanese fabrics! ♥
This pretty girly play tent is off to a little girl in Australia.
I also took my stall to a summer fair to support a local breastfeeding support group. Thanks to everyone who visited my stall!
I finally got a chance to make a Zap Pow Wham dress for my gorgeous little girl too.
I have a bunch of new designs on the sewing table for my shop which I should be able to share soon. ^_^
I have enjoyed working on lots of extra special one of a kind custom orders recently, I love the ideas my customers come up with and it is a pleasure to create something completely unique!
This sweet nautical baby quilt was handmade for a nautical themed 1st birthday party for a little boy in Texas. The colours and designs were chosen to match the party invitations and his initials were appliquéd on to the sail boat on the centre square. As well as a beautiful play mat for the birthday party I hope this quilt will hold a special memory for the family for years to come.
This mini punk shirt was commissioned for 4 year old Carson by his awesome punk rock Mamma. I appliquéd a lyric by the punk band Rancid on to the back of the shirt and rockabilly swallows on the front of the shirt, along with skull and crossbones buttons.
This handmade bees and kitties dress and matching mini tote bag were made for for 2 year old Cara Bee. Commissioned by her Granny who sent me this sweet fabric to use.
It has been great fun working on these custom items! Get in touch if you have an idea for something you would like to have made!
I had to share these beautiful photos of little Reuben on his 1st birthday enjoying his 50’s kitsch meets Native American teepee. Reuben’s mum sent me a bunch of inspiring images with the kind of colours and designs she likes and together we came up with this fun design. It looks like Reuben loves it!
Custom teepee play tents are available in my shop. The possibilities for custom colours, fabrics, appliqués and trims are endless. Get in touch with your ideas. Thanks!
As well as children’s clothing I am also working on some commissions for quilts and custom play tents. Here are some examples of my play tents and the possibilities for different fabrics, appliqué and even windows and curtains.
I am currently taking commissions for these made to order items and many others! Check out my shop for details and my facebook page for more examples of my past work. Thank you!
